Piccolo® Short Corridor Progressive Lens
Short Frames. Short of Compromises.
While fashion trends create a demand for short corridor
progressive lenses, there will always continue to be
a need for stable and comfortable vision.
Designing a progressive lens is a mathematical procedure
that involves managing optical errors to create optimal
fields of vision. The best PAL designs are those that
manage all optical variables and excess cylinders to
create a lens with adequate, clear fields of vision
and are easy to wear.
Therefore, when designing the best short corridor progrssive lens, optical
engineers must take into account all optical variables,
while delivering a lens with a short corridor.
To provide a short corridor, the lens designer may
choose to manage unwanted astigmatism across the lens
by either spreading it over a larger area in the lens
(figure A) or by increasing the density in limited areas
(figure B).

Shamir Creation®. Flat and Exact.
Shamir Creation
Developed with patented Freeform OpticsT, providing design resolution up to six times more accurate than standard cast PALs. Shamir Creation, introduced
in an extended base curve selection (up to 20 percent
more than a leading competitor) provides flatter, cosmetically superior lenses (up to 40 percent flatter). This extensive
base curve selection not only produces flatter lenses,
but also results in an optimally divided prescription
range that guarantees the best optical performance for
each prescription.
Freeform Optics
The semi-finished PALs produced using previous technologies
require the use of ceramic molds
(also known as mechanical molds). These mechanical molds
replicate the lens design with up to 6/100 diopters.
Freeform Optics patented software bypasses the ceramic
molds and creates digital molds (glass molds). Freeform
Optic molds provide up to six times more resolution.
Cosmetically Superior
Shamir Creation is available in six different base curves
(up to 20 percent more than leading competitive lenses).
As a result, the prescription range is optimally divided
between these base curves in order to guarantee the
best optical performance for each prescription. The
end result: superior optical quality in a flatter and
thinner lens (up to 40 percent flatter).

FreeFrame Technology™
Built into select new Autograph® designs, FreeFrame Technology™ is a ground breaking design element that adapts the progressive lens design to the frame itself. Based on the frame shape, this unbelievable new feature dynamically adjusts the corridor length and moves the reading zone to the most optimal position in the frame, retaining the full reading power! Now, progressive wearers have the freedom to choose any frame they like. Every frame picked will have the most optimal design specifically tailored to the frame and patient.
As-Worn Technology™
To further fine tune each Autograph® lens, Shamir incorporates As-Worn Technology™ by taking three additional, specific measurements from the patient: “Pantoscopic Tilt”, “Panoramic Angle” and “Vertex Distance”. These measurements will further fine tune the Rx given to the patient by the doctor to provide the patient with the proper Rx for the frame shape as it’s worn on the face. The Shamir Autograph® design is now fine-tuned to provide the most advanced, tailored optics available anywhere today.
Direct Lens Technology® & Prescriptor® Software
Transferring this data to the back surface of the lens is the combined effort of Shamir’s Direct Lens Technology® and Prescriptor® software, which captures each patients personalized information (Rx, PD, frame measurements and personal lifestyle preferences) and selects the design file required to generate a personalized lens. This information is then sent to the freeform production equipment which grinds the Autograph® design on the back surface of the lens, producing a personalized, custom made Autograph® lens, created to the highest level of optical accuracy (0.01 diopters) and 20% wider fields of vision.

Grinding a sphere power ranging from -4.00 to +2.00
in a standard Base 8 will result in increasing unwanted
astigmatism as the eye moves toward the edge of the
lens. Using proprietary Eye-Point Technology©,
Shamir engineers employ surface asphericity to compensate for the off-center unwanted astigmatism.

Office™ Occupational Lens
Optimized by Dynamic Power
With the use of proprietary Eye-Point Technology, Shamir
engineers created 4 Small Environment designs providing
true edge-to-edge visibly distortion-free occupational
lens.
Each design corresponds to a Dynamic Power. The Dynamic Power is the amount of power that is subtracted from the total reading Rx. In other words, it is the gradual
reduction of power as the eye moves from the reading
zone to the intermediate zone.


Figure A depicts
4 examples of Dynamic Powers. The second column shows
a reading power of +1.50D with a Dynamic Power of -1.25D.
As a result of this Dynamic Power the area above the
fitting cross will gradually reduce to a stable +0.25D
(+1.50 Ð 1.25 = 0.25).
Finally, as shown in Figure
B, the optimal distance vision for this Rx is
7 feet.
