FreeForm by Prescriptor
Freeform Technology is upon us and it is the
next generation in personalized lens processing. The CNC Generators
first made it possible to consider using FreeForm Lens
Designs on the back surface of lenses. The introduction
of Lens Polishers capable of polishing these surfaces
made the dream a possibility.
Prescriptor software by Shamir now makes it a reality.
The Prescriptor software controls the whole surfacing
process to insure the highest degree of accuracy in
producing FreeForm surfaces.
We first have a lens designed using Shamir's Eye Point Technology. This design is then transferred
to the Prescriptor. Each point on the lens is calculated
to determine what thickness and curvature is needed
to produce the lens design.
The RX including the fitting information is then added
to the Prescriptor software. This information including
the frame dimensions or preferably a tracing of the
frame is incorporated into the Prescriptor.
The Prescriptor calculates this information to produce
the thicknesses and curves needed at each point on the
lens surface to produce the most optically correct and
the thinnest lens possible.
The information from the Prescriptor is then transmitted
to the blocker providing the information on the where
and how to block the lens along with the size of block
to use.
After blocking the lenses go to the CNC Generator.
The Prescriptor software downloads the information into
the generator. It tells the generator exactly how to
cut the personalized lens and at what points the curves and thickness
must be to maintain the integrity of the design and
to produce the correct Rx and thickness wanted.
Polishing is next and the information from the Prescriptor
is downloaded into the polisher. It controls what soft
tool to use, the time, the spindle speeds and pressures
necessary to correctly polish the lens and maintain
the design integrity.
The Prescriptor isn’t finished. We have one last
step. The information from the Prescriptor is downloaded
into the laser engraver. The laser then puts the laser
engravings on the surfaced lens.
The Prescriptor is finished.
We then deblock the personalized lens, check it and process it through
the finish department.
