Great question, I think we can answer that for you. We’ve discovered a way to employ surface asphericity in all of the right places, to compensate for unwanted astigmatism. We’ve found that grinding a sphere power ranging from -4.00 to +2.00 in a standard Base 8 results in increasing unwanted astigmatism as the eye moves toward the edge of the lens.

How were we able to compensate for the off-center unwanted astigmatism? Easy! Don’t tell anyone, but our proprietary EyePoint Technology® software helps us out with this. The end result – drum roll please – Shamir Attitude® provides the look and feel of a Base 8 with all of the optical performance of Base 3 and 5 – incredible, right?

Distortion free

So, you’re probably thinking... what happens if I don’t put my patient in the right Base Curve? No need to ask, just look at the diagram below... If you put your patient in a Base Curve that's not optimized for their Rx, it will mean increased unwanted astigmatism, and will result in image distortions. Your active presbyope will most likely reject the lens – Not good.

There’s a problem inherent in wrap frames with Base 8 lenses. The optical axis is not the line of sight. Shamir Attitude® compensates for this situation and creates a lens where vision is perfect across the line of sight and causes no distortion.
